Faculty Biography

Professor Guirguis is the co-founder and co-director of the law school’s Human Trafficking Law Clinic. She is an expert on state and federal laws regarding human trafficking issues and their effects on trafficking survivors.

Professor Guirguis provides a variety of legal services for both adult and juvenile sex-trafficking survivors, including expungement, employment, housing and other legal assistance. The Milton A. Kramer Law Clinic also provides practical-skills training for sex-trafficking survivors, including vocational training, employment services, mentoring, and other services.

She has organized and spoken at multiple symposia targeted at raising awareness and providing education on topics related to sex trafficking and human-trafficking laws and she has trained local service providers on legal issues facing trafficking victims. She serves on the Board of the Renee Jones Empowerment Center, the Legislative Subcommittee for Ohio’s Human Trafficking Commission, the Education Committee for the Collaborative to End Human Trafficking, and the Education Committee for S.O.A.P. (Stop Our Adolescents’ Prostitution).

Prior to directing the clinic, Professor Guirguis taught for 12 years in the legal-writing department, and she founded and directed the law school’s Legal Writing Academy, which provides legal-writing seminars, workshops, and training for students and practicing attorneys. She is often called upon to provide training workshops or private consulting for law firms and other practicing attorneys.
